Included is the history, sources, and technical secrets of this unique art form. Beautifully illustrated with masterpieces from the Wallace Collection in London as well as other collections. The text also examines the extraordinary color contrasts that would have been apparent when the marquetry was first produced, the colors that by today have faded. Emphasis is placed on marquetry techniques, with explanations of both how it is made and the exquisite materials used-- ranging from turtle-shell and brass for "Boulle" work to a variety of European and exotic woods.
