Furniture of John Henry Belter & the Rococo Reviva
Marvin D. Schwarz,Edward J. Stanek,Douglas K. True,Marvin D. Schwartz
John Henry Belter's furniture featured curved, heavily carved panels that he made using a lamination process. Here's excellent research into how to distinguish the work of Belter from other similar work of the period. Included are diagrams, an x-ray to reveal how a chair is constructed, as well as a photo of one of the few original paper labels ever discovered. Now back in print, this classic reference is based on the extraordinary collection currently on display at the Wintherthur Museum. Invaluable to those interested in American furniture and decorative arts history.
