Bella Bella: A Season of Heiltsuk Art
Martha Black
The Heiltsuk nation lies at the center of the Northwest Coast. Traditionally, Heiltsuk ceremonialists, canoe makers, and artists were greatly influential, but, despite their significance, their art and culture remains mysterious. This volume focuses on Canada's premier collection of Heiltsuk art: The R. W. Large Collection in the Royal Ontario Museum. It illuminates the early 20th century origins and the continuity and power of Heiltsuk cultural expression.
